Sue Hodgson is a self-taught artist who has had a passion for art since childhood. She was born in 1951 at Maryport, Cumbria, but has spent most of her life in Essex.
A widow with a son and two daughters, she now lives in Southminster, a little village near Maldon, where she teachers several small groups each week. Sue works quickly with a very sure eye for colours and composition, using oils, acrylics, watercolours or pastels and choosing every possible subject from landscapes to flowers, portraits to local scenes. She has always been an animal lover, and a number of her most memorable pictures show animals and birds. She can portray a creature with great humour, and her work is made more appealing by the endearing expressions she gives to her subjects.
Sue has a mastery of working either from photographs, from original models or from her own imagination.
